In a significant step toward improving healthcare accessibility in Vietnam, Handicare—part of the Savaria group—partnered with Vietcare Solutions to install two Handicare 1100 straight stairlifts at the Rehabilitation Center of Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi. This collaboration marked a key milestone under the “New Mobility Assistance Equipment” project, improving mobility for patients and enhancing the hospital’s service quality.
Meeting Growing Accessibility Needs
Vietnam’s population is aging rapidly, with over 16 million people aged 60 and older as of 2023, making up about 16% of the total population. Additionally, more than 7 million individuals live with disabilities. These demographic shifts have intensified the need for inclusive infrastructure in public health facilities.
Recognizing this, Bach Mai Hospital—a leading and long-established medical institution in Vietnam—responded proactively. With support from USAID and Humanity & Inclusion, the hospital sought advanced mobility solutions to assist patients with limited mobility, leading to the installation of Handicare stairlifts.

Why Handicare Was Chosen
Following a comprehensive procurement process, the hospital selected the Handicare 1100 model for its compact design, user-friendly operation, and international safety certification (EN 81-40). Installed by Vietcare Solutions’ team, the stairlifts were placed on either side of the rehabilitation center’s main hall to reduce mobility challenges for patients.
